How to Enter Hanging Weights

Record hanging weights after harvest and let Farmshare automatically calculate yield for each animal.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Entering hanging weights is the natural next step after drop-off. Once a job has been marked as dropped off, the button in the upper right corner of the job page will have changed from Mark as Dropped Off to Mark as Killed. This is where you'll enter your hanging weights.

Entering Hanging Weights

Open the job from your Dashboard, Calendar, or Jobs in the left sidebar. Click the Mark as Killed button in the upper right corner.

A pop-up will appear showing every animal head in the job. For each head you'll see:

  • Harvest Date — defaults to today, adjust if needed

  • Cut Date — auto-populated if you have auto-scheduling enabled

  • Tracking Number — pre-filled from the job

  • Grading Notes — optional field for quality grade (e.g., Prime, Choice)

  • Live Weight — pre-filled from drop-off, locked

  • Hanging Weight — required, enter the total hanging weight of the entire animal

Hanging Weight is a required field — you won't be able to click Save until every head has a hanging weight entered. Once you enter a hanging weight alongside a live weight, Farmshare will automatically calculate and display the yield percentage for that animal.

When you're done, click Save.

After Saving — Carcass Tags

After saving your hanging weights, Farmshare will prompt you about printing carcass tags. You don't need to do this immediately — you can print them later. When you do print them, Farmshare will divide the hanging weight by two and generate a carcass tag for each side.

Editing Hanging Weights After the Fact

If you need to correct a hanging weight after saving, you can do so from the Heads tab of the job. Click Edit in the upper right corner of the Heads tab and the same hanging weight entry screen will appear, allowing you to update any values and save again.

Tip: If you have live weights entered from drop-off, Farmshare calculates yield automatically as soon as you enter the hanging weight — no extra steps needed. This yield figure will carry through to your producer's yield report.
