Objective
This SOP explains how to create a new specification in Cutsheet Builder, configure its input options and pricing, and assign it to specific cuts so it appears correctly on the Cutsheet and invoice. It also covers how to add the specification as a question on the form when needed.
Key Steps
1. Open Cutsheet Builder and start a new specification 0:00
Navigate to Cutsheet Builder.
Select Add.
Choose the appropriate item type based on what you need to create:
New Group
New Cut
New Trim
New Specification
For this SOP, select Create New Specification.
2. Name the specification and define the input type 0:13
Click Specification.
Enter a clear specification name, such as Steaks Per Package.
Choose the input type that best fits the response format:
Text
Number
Single Select
Multiple
For a single choice response, select Single Select.
3. Add the description and printed text label 0:32
Enter a customer- or staff-facing description that explains the question.
Example: How many steaks do you want per package?
Set the Printed Text field to the shorter label that will appear on the Cutsheet.
Example: Steaks Per Package
Use a shorter printed label to save space and make the Cutsheet easier for butchers to read.
4. Build the response options and set any upcharge 0:55
Add the available options for the specification.
Example options:
Two per pack
Three per pack
Four per pack
Add any special option that includes an extra charge.
Example: One per pack with an upcharge.
Set the upcharge amount as needed.
Example: $5 or $10
If applicable, configure the option as a fixed price so the charge appears on the Cutsheet and invoice as just 1 upcharge.
Other pricing options are $/lb of the item, dollars per pound of the hanging weight, $ per item, or no additional cost
Use the option Description text to clearly communicate the extra cost to avoid confusion later.
5. Save the specification 1:43
Review the name, input type, description, printed text, and options.
Confirm any upcharge and fixed-price settings are correct.
Click Save to store the specification.
6. Assign the specification to specific cuts 1:59
If the specification should only apply to certain cuts, go to Assignment.
Select the cuts that should include this specification.
Example cuts:
Chuckeye Steak
Sirloin Tip Steak
Cube Steak
Save the assignment so the specification appears only where intended.
7. Add the specification as a question on the form if needed 2:11
If the specification should appear as a stand-alone question on the questionnaire or Cutsheet form, choose Add Question > Specification.
Enter the question text, such as Steaks Per Pack.
This makes the question appear broadly across the form unless specific assignments override it.
8. Preview the Cutsheet to verify the specification 2:48
Open Preview to confirm the specification displays correctly.
Check that the assigned cuts show the specification in the expected location.
Verify the following:
The question appears on the correct cut(s)
The printed text is shortened appropriately
The selected option displays correctly
Any upcharge appears on the Cutsheet and invoice
Review the final output to ensure the global and cut-specific settings are working as intended.
Cautionary Notes
Make sure the printed text is short enough to fit cleanly on the Cutsheet.
Confirm whether the option should be a fixed price or just a visible upcharge before saving.
Double-check cut assignments so the specification does not appear on unintended items.
If a question is added globally, verify that cut-specific assignments do not conflict with it.
Always preview before releasing the Cutsheet to avoid pricing or labeling errors.
Tips for Efficiency
Use Single Select when only one answer should be allowed. Multi Select if you want them to have more than 1 option. Text if you want them to have a text field, and Number if you want them to enter in a number.
Keep the customer-facing description clear, but use shorter printed text for the Cutsheet.
Standardize option wording, such as per pack, to reduce confusion.
Add the most common options first, then place the upcharge option last for easier selection.
Preview after every major change to catch issues early.
