Kill and Chill

This SOP explains how to schedule a Kill and Chill job in FarmShare, verify that it was created correctly, and understand how the cut date is handled for this job type.

Key Steps

1. Open the job scheduling area 0:00

  • From FarmShare, navigate to Schedule New Job.

  • You can also access the same function from View Day and then select Schedule New Job there.

  • Use whichever entry point is most convenient for your workflow.

2. Confirm you are scheduling for a present or future date 0:12

  • Make sure the date you are working in is today or a future date.

  • If you are in the past, the Schedule Job option may not appear.

  • If needed, move to the correct date before continuing.

3. Enter the Kill and Chill job details 0:19

  • Select the producer and enter the job details.

  • Example setup from the transcript:

    • 3 Beef

    • Scheduled for Kill and Chill

    • Date: the 10th

    • Assigned to the correct Producer

  • Continue to the Animal Details section to configure the job type.

4. Select Kill and Chill in Animal Details 0:31

  • In the Animal Details section, choose Kill and Chill.

  • Click Next to continue.

  • Do not click Deposit Schedule for this job type.

  • Complete the job creation process so the job is saved successfully.

5. Verify the job appears on the calendar 0:44

  • Open the calendar view to confirm the job was created.

  • Switch to Month view if needed.

  • Look for the job labeled Kill and Chill on the scheduled date.

  • Confirm the job appears in the correct place and on the correct day.

6. Understand how the cut date is handled 0:53

  • A Kill and Chill job is not typically a cutting job.

  • Because of that, there should not be a meaningful cut date for this job.

  • Farmshare may still display a cut date, but it can generally be ignored for Kill and Chill jobs, or deleted by going to the Heads page and hitting "Bulk Edit" and deleting the cut date.

Cautionary Notes

  • Do not schedule in the past if you need the Schedule Job option to appear.

  • FarmShare may still show a cut date, but it is not typically relevant for Kill and Chill jobs.

  • Always verify the job on the calendar after saving to ensure it was created correctly.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Use View Day or Schedule New Job—whichever gets you to the form fastest.

  • Confirm the date is current or future before starting to avoid missing options.

  • After saving, switch to Month view for a quick visual confirmation of the scheduled job.

  • Keep the producer, animal count, and job type ready before entering the form to speed up data entry.
